SILICON VALLEY GIRL: Short Film Kickstarter
A young woman grapples with her insecurity, ambition, and desire to belong in a highly-competitive, male-dominated workplace.
THE STORY
SILICON VALLEY GIRL is a proof-of-concept short film that is inspired by Yeon Jin’s experience as a young, female engineer in Silicon Valley. This film is a psychological thriller about Silicon Valley seen through the eyes of Chloe Cho, a young Korean-American female engineer. She grapples with her insecurity, ambition, and desire to belong in a highly competitive, male-dominated workplace.
We’re not just making another short film; we’re creating a powerful voice, a movement, a piece that captures the evocative emotions and experiences of women who have been there, seen it, and felt it. This isn’t just storytelling—it’s advocacy. We want you to be an advocate, to champion this narrative, and push it forward. Our goal is to break through the noise and ensure these stories get seen, heard, and felt. This film is not just a project; it’s a catalyst for change. We’re here to redefine the narrative and make an impact that resonates far beyond the screen.

“We women have so much to bring to the big screen, film, to the screenplay, to storytelling, and we have so much to bring to the world in general, whether it’s in science, technology, engineering. I studied chemical engineering at the university. I remember having to work twice as hard as my male counterparts back then. I had to wear pants. If I wore skirts or dresses, instantly that would set off a different kind of perception, and people would treat me differently for the simple fact that I am dressed differently, and I am a very young woman. There is still the message sometimes that young women get, that they have to dress sexy or objectify themselves in order to get anywhere in life, and that’s simply not true. Who you are is beautiful, it’s amazing! If you are just persistent, and you study and you work hard you can build something, and do something you can be proud of.”

Veteran Powered Films
Julia Ling runs Veteran Powered Films along with her producing partner and several other veterans and VPF’s mission is to help stop veterans suffering and veteran suicide.
“This is done by hiring and casting veterans, allowing them to write stories, make movies, being in front of the camera, and behind the camera. There are so many roles they can take on, like technician, directing, gaffing, production assistant. There is tons of roles to make a film set complete. We make these movies, we sell them, then we make the money, and then we come back, and we write and produce more. Our ultimate mission is to stop veteran suicide, and if there is anything that we can do to inspire or reach out and help another veteran, that is everything that we want, and it makes all of this effort worth it.”
