G{Code}

A PLACE-BASED COMMUNITY FOR YOUNG WOMEN AND NON-BINARY PEOPLE OF COLOR PURSUING CAREERS IN TECH

G{Code} is an innovative, place-based initiative which connects women and non-binary people of color to educational and employment opportunities in the technology sector. The initiative combines affordable co-living, technology instruction, industry placements, and post-secondary education. We aim to tackle the STEM gender gap, income inequality, and the affordable housing crisis by recruiting Boston residents, specifically women and non-binary people of color, including those who are close to aging out of homeless shelters by offering them a place to live while pursuing a STEM education. Teaching the skills necessary to navigate the tech industry, this program ultimately provides participants with stable careers that will allow them to gain access to economic mobility.

Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media

IF SHE CAN SEE IT, SHE CAN BE IT.

Founded in 2004 by Academy Award-Winning actor Geena Davis, the Institute is the only research-based organization working collaboratively within the entertainment industry to create gender balance, foster inclusion and reduce negative stereotyping in family entertainment media.

Media is one of the most important factors influencing our values. Women and girls are 51% of the population, but entertainment media is bereft of female characters, with a ratio of approximately 3:1 male characters to female characters since the 1940s.

  • Kids and teens (8-18) are engaging with media more than 7 hours a day.
  • Media consumption impacts mental health: 52% increase in major depression in adolescents from 2005-2017.
  • Sexualization of women in media linked to eating disorders, low self-esteem and depression in girls.

Gender Vender

WE'RE SUPPORTING LOCAL WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESSES.

Gender Vender is here to shatter the expectations on how we interact with vending machines. We're a vending machine pop-up that partners with local women-run business owners in the Greater Seattle Area. Our mission is to raise awareness in supporting local businesses run by women, sparking dialogue on gender inequality and enabling change through our vending machine. Through our partnership, we showcase our partner's founding story and have their products for sale to the public.

We believe in 100% woman-made products, and 100% of the proceeds collected will be donated back to local women based non-profits or organizations.

EMPOWERING WOMEN IN TECH.

Ada Lovelace is often considered the world's first computer programmer. Grace Hopper helped invent the computer compiler that led to the development of the COBOL programming language. Mae Jemison, an engineer, physician, and NASA astronaut, became the first African-American woman to travel in space.

Throughout history, women have played central roles in the advancement of STEM. Yet, the number of women in technical professions — particularly minority women — has steadily declined over the last few decades. GA has set out to help reverse that trend with See Her Excel.

Generation She

JOIN THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS.

Having worked for various tech companies and always being the only female on the team, I was compelled to personally reassess the lack of gender diversity in technology. While many companies have already addressed this with numerous diversity initiatives for recruiting more women, only 20% of women hold these tech jobs. While this bottom-up approach is essential, we remain far from achieving a gender balance in leadership positions and our general workforce. Worse, every day fewer women are starting their own companies due to a variety of factors stemming from an absence of moral support and guidance at a young age, understanding of entrepreneurial risks, and lack of resources to pursue an idea.

Culture shifts start from the top. I believe that if we approach this problem top-down as well, with a goal to have more women leading companies, the workplace culture will naturally shift towards improved diversity. With this approach, we can more rapidly attain gender balance in the workplace.

GenZ Girls

EMPOWERING GIRLS WORLDWIDE ONE STEP AT A TIME THROUGH STORYTELLING AND EDUCATION.

At GenZ Girls, we seek to shed spotlight on young females who are making a clear impact within their community and possibly the world, while delivering their stories that are unheard of. We aim to have a particular focus on young women of color and showcase their abilities in overcoming prejudice in our society to become agents of change. With this website, we hope to inspire young females to not let labels impact their measures of success while also encouraging them to be the change that they wish to see in the world.

Here are a few statistics that show the power of Generation Z Girls:

  • According to the UN, 131 million girls are out of school
  • Girl Up clubs led by young GenZ girls around the world are ensuring that girls can get access to educational resources
  • Today, only 18% of women are earning Bachelor's degrees in computer science
  • GenZ girls have been introducing young girls to coding through organizations like Girls Who Code, and of course, Kode with Klossy!
